This member of the Cycadaceae family was given this name by Lin Zhou and Si Yuan Yang in 1991. It is found in Sichuan and Yunnan; south-central China, growing in a well drained soil with quite some water and lots of sun. The caudex can grow to 25 centimetres in diameter, the entire plant to 250 centimetres in height. The female cones are brown, the male cones yellow. It different from Cycas revoluta with its unbranched stem and softer, looser habit and fairly stiff, dark green to blue-green leathery fern-like fronds.

The genera name from Greek kyklos: 'circle' referring to the rounded tubers. The species name from the city of Panzhihua in China. Habitat by Yunheng Ji, American Journal of Botany. Another plant from Gardenpalms.com.
