CUSSONIA NATALENSIS

This member of the Araliaceae family was given this name by Otto Wilhelm Sonder in 1862. It is found in north-eastern South Africa, Eswatini and Zimbabwe, growing in a well drained soil with quite some water and some sun. The stem tend to loose the fat part by age and the little tree can reach ten metres in height. The small flowers are greenish yellow. The genera is named after Pierre Cusson, 1727-1783, a French physician, botanist and mathematician. The species name referring to Natal, the area in South Africa it is was first found.
