This member of the Amaryllidaceae family was given this name by James Edgar Dandy 1939. It is found in tropical Africa, growing in peat or a well drained but moist soil with plenty of water and sun. The bulb will grow up to five centimetres in diameter, the whole plant can reach 90 centimetres in height. The flowers are white. The genera is from the Greek krinon, meaning 'lily'.
