CRASSOTHONNA PROTECTA

This member of the Asteraceae family was given this name by Rune Bertil Nordenstam in 2012. It is found in south-western Namibia and north-western South Africa, growing in a well drained sandy or gravel soil with some water and some sun. The caudex can grow to five centimetres in diameter, the entire plant to 30 centimetres in height. The flowers are yellow, sometimes with a greenish flair.

The genera name from Crasso; " thick " and the Greek othone, 'a linen cloth or napkin', in allusion to the downy covering of some of the earlier known species.
