CORALLOCARPUS BOEHMII

This member of the Cucurbitaceae family was described by Charles Jeffrey in 1962. It is found in Cameroon, Caprivi Strip, Kenya, Nigeria, Somalia, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zaïre and Zimbabwe, growing in grit with some to lots of water and some sun. The caudex can grow to 15 centimetres in diameter, the vines reaches for four meters. The flowers are light crème coloured.

The genera name from Latin; corallum; 'coral' and Greek; karpos; 'fruit' for the red fruits. The species is named after German naturalist and collector Richard Böhm. The flower and fruit by BT Wursten, Zambiaflora.com.
