This member of the Burseraceae family was given this name by Heinrich Gustav Adolf Engler in 1883. It is found in Gujarat; India and Pakistan, growing in a well drained soil from grit to sandy with some water and some to lots of sun. The stem can grow to 20 centimetres in diameter, the entire plant to four metres in height. The flowers are whitish.
The genera name from Greek kommi; 'gum' and Greek - phoros; 'carrying' for the balsam-like scented resin. The species name in honour of J. Ellerton Stocks, who in 1847 were the first one to collect a plant - and recognise it was un-described species. And plant from Caudexthecat.com.
