This member of the Burseraceae family was described by Kaj Børge Vollesen in 1985. It is found in the Somali Republic and Ethiopia, growing in grit with some water and lots of sun. It can grow to three or even five meters in height, and 50 centimetres in diameter. The small flowers are greenish to yellow.
The genera name from Greek kommi; 'gum' and Greek - phoros; 'carrying' for the balsam-like scented resin. The species name referring to this plant's stalkless flowers.
