This member of the Burseraceae family was given this name by Mats Thulin in 2001. It is found near Eil in the Nugaal Region, north-eastern Somalia, growing in shallow soil over limestone. It can grow up to 60 centimetres in height, 100-200 centimetres in wide, with a stem of fifteen centimetres, and the flowers being yellow to plant orange..
The genera name from Greek kommi; 'gum' and Greek - phoros; 'carrying' for the balsam-like scented resin. The species name means 'oak-like leaves'.
