COMMIPHORA EMINII

This member of the Burseraceae family was given this name by Heinrich Gustav Adolf Engler in 1895. It is found in Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Tanzania and Zambia, growing in a well drained soil from grit over sand to clayish. It take some water and some to lots of sun. The stem can grow to 150 centimetres in diameter, the entire plant from five to 22 metres in height. The flowers are greenish white.

The genera name from Greek kommi; 'gum' and Greek - phoros; 'carrying' for the balsam-like scented resin. The species name in honour of Mehmed Emin Pasha,1840–1892 (born Isaak Eduard Schnitzer, baptized Eduard Carl Oscar Theodor Schnitzer; an Ottoman physician of German Jewish origin, naturalist, and governor of the Egyptian province of Equatoria on the upper Nile.
