This member of the Vitaceae family was given this name by Martin Vahl Henrichsen in 1790. It is found in the eastern Africa, growing in a well drained soil with little to some water and some to lots of sun. The vines will reach for up to nine meters. The flowers are green over yellowish white to yellow The generic name is derived from the Greek word κισσος kissos, meaning 'ivy'. The species name rotundifolia means round-leaved.
