CEROPEGIA RENDALLII

This member of the Asclepiadaceae family was given this name by Nicholas Edward Brown in 1894. It is found in Botswana, Eswatini, South Africa and Zimbabwe, growing in a well drained soil with some water and some to lots of sun. The caudex can grow to seven centimetres in diameter, and the vines reaches one metre.

The genera name is from the Greek word keropegion meaning 'candelabrum', because Linnaeus thought that the flowers looked like candles. The species name is named after Dr. Percy J. Rendall, 1861-1948, a British botanist, working in South Africa. *)Accordantly to the latest taxonomic system; APG IV 2016, Asclepiadaceae is now part of the Apocynaceae.
