CEROPEGIA KITULOENSIS

This member of the Asclepiadaceae family was given this name by Patrick Siro Masinde and Focke Albers in 2000. It is found on the Kitulo Plateau in southern Tanzania, growing in a well drained soil with some water and some sun. The caudex can grow to four centimetres in diameter, the entire plant from five to eighteen centimetres in height. The flowers are green with black apical margins.

The genera name is from the Greek word keropegion meaning 'candelabrum', because Linnaeus thought that the flowers looked like candles. The species name as it is found on the Kitulo Plateau in souther Tanzania. *)Accordantly to the latest taxonomic system; APG IV 2016, Asclepiadaceae is now part of the Apocynaceae.
