This member of the Asclepiadaceae* family was given this name by Heinrich Gottlieb Ludwig Reichenbach in 1830. It is found in southern South Africa, growing in a rich but well drained soil with some water and some sun. The caudex can grow to ten centimetres, the vines can reach 1,2 metres. The flowers are yellowish white with brownish violet stripes.
The genera name is from the Greek word keropegion meaning 'candelabrum', because Linnaeus thought that the flowers looked like candles.. The species name means 'resembling a grill or latticed, as in the lattice stink-horn and lattice-leaf plant. *)Accordantly to the latest taxonomic system; APG IV 2016, Asclepiadaceae is now part of the Apocynaceae.
