This member of the Zamiazeae family was given this name by Miguel Ángel Pérez-Farrera, José Said Gutiérrez-Ortega, Jody L. Haynes and Andrew P. Vovides in 2021. It is found in Oaxaca in southern Mexico, growing in a well drained limestone soil with some water and some sun. The caudex can grow to 20 centimetres in diameter and 20 to 150 centimetres tall, the entire plant reach 250 centimetres in height. The cones are light orange.

The genus name from the Greek ceras, meaning 'horn', which refers to the paired, spreading horny projections on the male and female sporophylls of all species. The species name is from the Latin aurantiacus and refers to the 'glowing orange' colour of emerging leaves. The top of the stem. More new leaves. The orange new leaves.
