This member of the Ericaceae family was given this name by Albert Charles Smith in 1950. It is found in the hills of Ecuador, growing as an epiphyte with plenty of water and some sun. I think the caudex can grow to 15 centimetres in diameter, the entire plant to 150 centimetres in height. The flowers are crimson, while the berries are slightly transparent white.

The genera name is named for the "horns" on the stem some species have. The species name from ' silva '; forest and ' cola '; inhabiting in, as it is growing in the forests. The flowers by Euplusia, https://www.orchidboard.com A small plant from https://aucview.aucfan.com.
