This member of the Amaryllidaceae family was given this name by Barthélemy Charles Joseph Dumortier in 1822. It is found in Indonesia, Philippines, New Guinea, Queensland + Western Australia and Thailand, and have been cultivated widely. It is growing in a drained but rich soil with quite some water and little sun. The bulb can grow to five or even ten centimetres in diameter, the entire plant to 25 or even 50 centimetres in height. The flowers are white.
