CATHISSA CONCINNA

This member of the Hyacinthaceae family was given this name by Franz Speta in 2001. It is found in in Portugal and Spain, growing in sand or other well drained soil with some water and lots of sun. The bulb will grow to three centimetres, the entire plant from 15 to 35 centimetres. The flowers are white.

The genera name is from the Greek καθίζω; kathizo, which has derived forms like kathissas, kathisa. It means 'to sit', apparently referring to the bracts sitting against the flowers. It was introduced by Richard Anthony Salisbury, The Genera of Plants 34. 1866. The species name means 'pretty, neat, elegant'. *) Accordantly to the latest taxonomic system; APG IV 2016, Hyacinthaceae is now part of the Asparagaceae.
