CALANDRINIA TRANSLUCENS

This member of the Montiaceae family was given this name by Frank J. Obbens in 2006. It is found in Western Australia, growing in a well drained sandy clayish soil with some water and lots of sun. The caudex can grow to three centimetres in diameter, the entire plant to 17 centimetres in height. The flowers are pink or white with a yellow throat. The genera was named for Jean Louis Calandrini, 1703-1758, a Genevan botanist. The species name is from Latin for translucent, in reference to the seeds it is growing in.
