CALANDRINIA CRISPISEPALA

This member of the Montiaceae family was given this name by Frank J. Obbens in 2006. It is found in Western Australia, growing in a well drained sandy or gritty soil with some water and lots of sun. The caudex can grow to two centimetres in diameter, the entire plant to four centimetres in height. The flowers are pink to purple with a white throat. The genera was named for Jean Louis Calandrini, 1703-1758, a Genevan botanist. The species name is from Latin; crispus 'wrinkled' or 'creased' and sepala; 'sepals'.
