This member of the Burseraceae family was given this name by Paul Carpenter Standley in 1929. It is found in central and south-western Mexico, growing in a well drained soil with some water and lots of sun. I believe it can grow to five metres with a trunk reaching 30 centimetres in diameter. The small flowers are pale yellow. The genera is n amed after: Joachim Burser, German/Danish botanist,1583-1639.

The species name from Latin: aridus meaning 'dry'.
