This member of the Amaryllidaceae family was given this name by William Herbert in 1837. It is found in the higher altitude regions 1500-2200 metres, in southern Botswana, Lesotho, South Africa and Eswatini. It grow in a well drained soil with some water and lots of sun. The caudex can grow to ten centimetres in diameter, the entire plant to 20 centimetres in height. The flowers are pink to red with white stripes. This Brunsvigia is close related to Brunsvigia gregaria, but will flower in (December-) January-February; early summer, according to Cameron McMaster.

The name Brunsvigia, in honour of the Duke of Brunswick. The species name; raduosa referring to the roughness of the leaves.
