This member of the Asclepiadaceae* family was given this name by Sharad Suresh Kambale, A. R. Gholave and Milind Madhav Sardesai in 2016. It is found in Karnataka, Maharashtra in south-western India, growing in a well drained soil with some water and lots of sun. The caudex can grow to three or four centimetres in diameter, the entire plant to seven to ten centimetres in height. The flowers are dark reddish-purple and greenish cream.
The genera name from Greek; brachys meaning 'short', and stelma means 'crown, garland, wreath'; alluding to the short staminal corona of some species. The species is named in honour of Prof. Shrirang R. Yadav (SUK), for his lifetime contributions in the field of taxonomy of angiosperms at Shivaji University. *)Accordantly to the latest taxonomic system; APG IV 2016, Asclepiadaceae is now part of the Apocynaceae.
