BRACHYSTELMA GONDWANENSE

This member of the Asclepiadaceae* family was given this name by Sharad Suresh Kambale, A. R. Gholave and Milind Madhav Sardesai in 2016. It is found in Maharashtra in western India, growing in a well drained but rich soil with quite some water and lots of sun. The genera name from Greek; brachys meaning 'short', and stelma means 'crown, garland, wreath'; alluding to the short staminal corona of some species. The species is named after Gondwana, the area including the type locality, which was once dominated and ruled by the Gond tribe. *)Accordantly to the latest taxonomic system; APG IV 2016, Asclepiadaceae is now part of the Apocynaceae.
