This member of the Burseraceae family was described by Frank Nigel Hepper in 1971. It is found on Socotra, growing on rocks with little water and lots of sun. The flowers are rose. The plant can grow to three meters or more, the stem can reach 25 centimetres in diameter, or more.
The genera name honours the Scottish botanist John Boswell, 1710 - 1780. The species name honours George Basil Popov, a Russian-British entomologist born in Iran. In 1957 Popov undertook a study on the locusts of Socotra. Photo by Boris "Puk" Vrskovy.
