This member of the Burseraceae family was described by Isaac Bayley Balfour in 1882. It is found on Socotra, growing on hill sides in grit with little to some water and lots of sun. It can grow to five meters with a trunk of 30 centimetres, and the flowers are greenish.
The genera name honours the Scottish botanist John Boswell, 1710 - 1780. The species name means 'lengthened, drawn out, extended', for the leaves. The adult leaves by Soumen Aditya. Juvenile leaves by Soumen Aditya.
