This member of the Begoniaceae family was given this name by Ernst Gottlieb von Steudel in 1840. It is found in KwaZulu-Natal and Eastern Cape in south-eastern South Africa, growing in a rich soil with quite some water and some sun. The caudex can grow to eight centimetres in diameter, the entire plant to 100 centimetres in height. The flowers are white to pink.

The genera name after Michel Bégon, 1638-1710, once a governor of French Haiti. The specific epithet, homonyma means ‘with the same name’ - of what, I can't figure...
