This member of the Begoniaceae family was given this name by William Jackson Hooker in 1835. It is found in Bolivia, Ecuador and mainly in Peru, growing in a rich soil with quite some water and little to some sun. The caudex can grow to six centimetres in diameter, the entire plant to 10 centimetres in height, 30 with the flowers. The flowers are pinkish white. The genera name after Michel Bégon, 1638-1710, once a governor of French Haiti. The species name indicate it have leaves like a Geranium. This is a winter-grower.
