BEAUCARNEA GOLDMANII

This member of the Nolinaceae family was given this name by Joseph Nelson Rose in 1904. It is found in El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and south-eastern Mexico, growing in a well drained soil with some water and some to lots of sun. The caudex can grow to 160 centimetres in diameter, the entire plant to four or even eight metres in height. The flowers are cream coloured.

The genera name after Monsieur Beaucarne, a Belgian succulent plant grower who first collected flowers of the genera. The species name honours Edward A. Goldmann, 1873-1946, a US-American botanist. *) Accordantly to the latest taxonomic system; APG IV 2016, Nolinaceae is now part of the Asparagaceae.
