This member of the Cyperaceae family was given this name by Henry Nicholas Ridley in 1884. It is found in the Cape Province and up north towards Mozambique, growing in sand with some water and lots of sun. The thick roots will grow up to two centimetres in diameter, the plant up to 40 centimetres high. The flowers are white. I'm not sure this will qualify as a caudiciform, but here it is.

The genera name is based on the genus Cyperus L., from the Greek kypeiros, name of some kind of sedge. The species name; capensis means: 'of the cape'. Photo by Robert V. Blittersdorff, Africanplants.senckenberg.de. And Pondolandcrew.blogspot.com.
