APODANTHERA VILLOSA

This member of the Cucurbitaceae family was given this name by Charles Jeffrey in 1992. It is found in Bahia in north-eastern Brazil, growing in a well drained soil with some water and some to lots of sun. The caudex can grow to ten centimetres or more, the vines up to five metres. The plants are dioecious - either male or female - the flowers are yellow. The wines are smooth and tend to be orange in the sun. The leaves are three lobed and hairy.

The genera name is from Greek apodos; 'wirhout a foot' and Greek antheros; 'flowering' for the sessile flowers. The species name villosa, meaning 'hairy', referring to the fruits. Fruits.
