ANDROCYMBIUM CILIOLATUM

This member of the Colchicaceae family was described by Friedrich Richard Rudolf Schlechter & Kurt Krause in 1921. After this page was made, it has been changed into Colchicum capense by John Charles Manning & Annika Vinnersten in 2007. It is found in Namaqualand and southwards to Piketberg in South Africa, growing in sand or an other well drained soil with some to lots of water and lots of sun. The bulbs will grow to 2,5 centimetres in diameter, the whole plant up to 12 centimetres height. The flowers are white. The genera name from Greek. andro; 'male / stamen' and kymbium; 'cup' / saucer'. The petal limbs enfold the stamens. The species name 'small hairs along the edges'.
