AMORPHOPHALLUS ATROVIRIDIS

This member of the Araceae family was given this name by Wilbert Leonard Anna Hetterscheid in 1994. It is found in Sara Buri in central Thailand, growing in a well drained but rich limestone mix with quite some water and but little or no direct sun. The caudex can grow to 20 centimetres in diameter, five centimetres high, the entire plant from 30 to 60 centimetres in height. The flowers are creamy-white.

The genera name from ancient Greek amorphos, 'without form, misshapen' and phallos, 'penis', referring to the shape of the prominent spadix. The species name from Latin; atro; 'dark, and - viridis; 'green' for the leaves, which have a fine red margins.
