This member of the Amaryllidaceae family was given this name by David J. Lehmiller in 1992. It is found in north and eastern Namibia, growing in a poor but well drained soil with some water and lots of sun. The bulb can grow to five centimetres in diameter, the entire plant to 25 centimetres in height. The flowers are light pink.

The genera name means 'sand' and 'delight', as it grows well in sandy soils.

The species name because of the flowers resembles in colour and shape to some species of Nerine. Another plant from Casabio.org. The flowers by SA Plants, Eol.org.
