ALOINOPSIS SCHOONEESII

This member of the Aizoaceae family was given this name by Harriet Margaret Louisa Bolus in 1928. It is found in Bushmanland, Southern South Africa, growing in grit or other well drained soil with little to some water and some sun. The swollen root can grow to eight centimetres in diameter, the plant will form a cushion, tvelwe centimetres high and 20 centimetres in diameter, given the right conditions. The flowers are from yellow to bronze.

The genera name means 'looking like Aloe' - although I fail to see that! The species is named after D. H. Schoonees, a South African teacher. This is a winter-grower like the other Aloinopsis ', but it seems to do fine at summer as well.
