The species name is named after Mary Elizabeth Barber, 1818-1899, a British amateur scientist who discovered it. The top of a large plant from Aucklandbotanicgardens.co.nz. I planted four 70 cm plants in 2007. In 2026, they have reach around eight meters. Well, they are in South Africa.
