This member of the Amaryllidaceae family was given this name by Eduard August von Regel in 1875. It is found in Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, growing in a well drained soil of sand or limestone gravel with some water and lots of sun. The bulb can grow to twelve centimetres in diameter, the entire plant to 25 centimetres in height. The flowers are from white over pale pink to red.

The genera name is an old Latin name for garlic. The species name means it is from Karadavi; NE Turkey.
