This member of the Passifloraceae family was given this name by Willem Jan Jacobus Oswald de Wilde in 1969. It is found in a small area in southern Kenya, growing in a well drained soil with some water and some sun. The caudex is tuberous, the entire plant to six metres in height.
The name Adenia is derived from aden, meaning gland, and pertains to the glands found on leaves of most of the species.
The species name from Latin - but besides from being referring to the flower's joined chambers, I'm lost for now.
