ADENIA LANCEOLATA

This member of the Passifloraceae family was described by Heinrich Gustav Adolf Engler in 1891. It is found in Kenya, Malawi, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia, growing in well-drained soil with some water and quiet some sun. The flowers are green, and beside seeds, it can be reproduced by cuttings, which might not form the caudex, which on seedlings can grow to 30 centimetres or more. The vines will climb to six meters.

The name Adenia is derived from aden, meaning gland, and pertains to the glands found on leaves of most of the species.

The species name means 'spear-formed'. Adenia lanceolata subsp. scheffleri, W.J. de Wilde1969, from Specks Exotica.
