This member of the Passifloraceae family was described by Hermann August Theodor Harms in 1893. It is found in Kenya, Somalia and Tanzania, growing in well drained soil with some water and some sun. The flowers are green, and beside seeds, it might be possible to make cuttings as well. It can grow up to one meter high, and ten centimetres in diameter.
The name Adenia is derived from aden, meaning gland, and pertains to the glands found on leaves of most of the species.
