This member of the Passifloraceae family was described by Willem Jan Jacobus Oswald de Wilde in 1971. It is found on the rocky savannas of Zimbabwe, growing in a well drained soil with some water and lots of sun. The stem can grow up to 50 centimetres in diameter, the whole small tree reach six and a half meters. The flowers are greenish and white.
The name Adenia is derived from aden, meaning gland, and pertains to the glands found on leaves of most of the species.
The species name after the Kariba district.
