This member of the Passifloraceae family was given this name by Abílio and Rosette Mercedes Saraiva Batarda Fernandes in 1958. It is found in Angola, growing in a well drained soil with some water and some to lots of sun. The caudex can grow from six to ten centimetres in diameter, the entire plant to 30 centimetres in height. The flowers are pale yellow.

The name Adenia is derived from aden, meaning gland, and pertains to the glands found on leaves of most of the species. The species is named after the area it was found in; Huila, a bit inland in the south-eastern corner of Angola.
