This member of the Malvaceae family was this name by Elmer Drew Merrill in 1924. It is found in Cambodia, China, India, Java, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, New Guinea, Philippines, Queensland; Australia, Thailand and Vietnam, growing in a rich but drained soil with some to lots of water and some sun. It will grow up to 30 centimetres in height, with two meters long vines, and the tubers will get up to five centimetres thick. The flowers are white over pale yellow to dark pink.
The genera name after Persian abu'l-mishk; 'father to musk', probably due to the smell of the seeds. The species name means 'arrow-formed leaves'.
